Miami Mock Trial's Statement on Racial Injustice
Recent events call us to suspend our usual blog posts to recognize and bear witness to our country’s pain. Instead of our usual posts, we will use our platform to call attention to the unfortunate, careless, and criminal acts resulting in the death of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and countless other Black Americans. The protests and demonstrations around the country speak into reality what we know to be true: that this country has continuously and tragically failed to uphold its founding ideals that all humans are created equal and deserve equal protection under the law.
We recognize that our program and membership benefit from privileges. We will continue to challenge ourselves to overcome innate biases and to focus on our common bonds instead of our differences. We are proud that our program welcomes everyone regardless of skin color, religious belief, sexual orientation, or any other innate characteristics. We believe there is strength in diversity and will continue strive to make a diverse program.
Racism is vile. Discrimination in any form has no place in our community. We stand with those who are working to make this country truly equal for all.
